Nursery

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum – all the children are taught to their own particular needs and abilities. The children are encouraged to learn through play and by having fun. Good manners are expected and encouraged – taking turns, sharing, learning some self-control, thinking of others. The learning journey and burgeoning learning behaviours of each child are tracked individually and the development steps are shared with parents.

The children investigate new activities with guidance and reassurance. They become independent by putting on their own shoes and coats, and they love to make their own sandwiches for their afternoon snack. The children begin to learn phonics and to count with confidence.

Entry into full time education through Reception marks an important and exciting step in your child’s life and at St Thomas’ we are committed to making the transition to school for your child as smooth as possible. We treat every child as an individual, recognising that they develop at their own rate and in their own way.

We use an indoor and outdoor learning environment that covers all the areas of the curriculum: Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.
